  Honey, child, Honey, child, whither are you going? 

 would you cast your jewels all to the breezes blowing? 

 would you leave the mother who on Golden Grain has fed you? 

 would you grieve the lover who is riding forth to wed you? 

 कवियत्री कहती है कि, एक मां अपनी बच्ची को संबोधित करते

 हुए पूछती है, प्रिय, बच्ची, प्रिय ,बच्ची, तुम कहां जा रही हो?

 क्या तुम अपने गहनों को हवा को  सौप दोगी ?

 क्या तुम अपनी मां को छोड़ दोगी,  जिसके 

सुनहरे अनाजों ने तुम्हारा पोषण किया है ?

 क्या तुम अपने उस प्रेमी को दुखी छोड़ दोगी 

जो घोड़े पर चढ़कर तुम्हें ब्याहने आ रहा है? 

 mother mine, to the Wild forest I am going.

 whereupon the Champa boughs the Champa buds are blowing;

to the Koil- haunted river- isles where Lotus Lilies  glisten,

 the voice of the fairy folk are calling me:o listen:

मेरी माता,  मैं घने जंगलों को जा रही हूं, 

जहां पर चंपा की शाखाओं पर, 

चंपा की कलियां खिल रही हैं,

 उन  सर्प जैसी कुंडलीत , प्रेतवाधित

 नदियों के  द्वीपों को जा रही हूं, जहां 

कमल और कुमुदिनीया चमक रही है,

 Honey, child, Honey, child, the world is full of pleasure,

of bridal- song, and cradle- song and sandal- scented leisure,

 your bridal robes are in the loom, silver and Saffron glowing,

 your bridal cakes are on the hearth:o whither are you going? 

 the bridal song and cradle song have cadences of sorrow,

 the laughter of the sun to-day the wind of death to-morrow.

 For sweeter sound the forest- notes where forest- stream are falling;

 o mother mine, I cannot stay, the fairy folk are calling.

 मां  फिर कहती है, प्रिय, बच्ची, प्रिय,बच्ची

 संसार आनंद से भरा हुआ है,

विवाह गीत, लोरी गीत ,चंदन की सुगंध ,और अवकाश 

के आनंद से, तुम्हारा चांदी के रंग और केसरिया रंग 

 की चमक वाला शादी का जोड़ा हथकरघा पर है/

 और तुम्हारे शादी का  मालपुआ (रोटी)

 चूल्हे पर  बन रहा है/ 

अरे तुम कहां जा  रही हो ? 

बेटी कहती है, विवाह गीत  और लोरी 

गीत, सब दुख के ताल (स्वर या संकेत) हैं

जो आज सूर्योदय की हंसी है

 वही कल मृत्यु की हवा है 

इसलिए मैं वहां जा रही हूं,

जहां जंगल की धाराएं गिर रही हैं 

जिसकी मधुर ध्वनि मुझे सुनाई दे रही है

 इसलिए , है मेरी मां, मैं नहीं ठहर सकती , 

मुझे परी लोक की परियां बुला  रही हैं/
